Yayorin (Yayasan Orangutan Indonesia) is a local NGO that’s been active since 1991 in Pangkalan Bun. The organisation has three connected main programs: environmental education, research, and community development. Every month, they visit schools in Pangkalan Bun, Alamanda, and Sukamara to teach students about the environment and orangutans. Yayorin also conducts research in the Lower Schwaner landscape, a very large, important orangutan habitat, where they monitor the orangutan population annually, while checking the condition of the forest for degradation.
